Itinerary
Day 1: Friday - June 9th: Depart and Arrive in Mexico
Make your way to your local airport where you will board your flight(s) to Mexico City. Upon arrival, you will be assisted by porters to collect your luggage in the baggage claim area and continue to the Arrival Hall where you will be greeted by a tour guide and/or driver. Porters will be on hand to assist with bringing the bags over to the Bus and loading them on. You will then transfer to your hotel. Enjoy free time before gathering as a group to celebrate Mass, followed by a Welcome Meeting, Cocktail Reception, and then dinner in a private room. Overnight in Mexi-co City.
Day 2: Saturday - June 10th: Mexico City: Metropolitan Cathedral - Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe
After breakfast, we will depart for the oldest and largest Cathedral in Latin America, the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Assumption of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven. You will be overwhelmed by the stunning paintings, altar pieces, and stat-ues. While there, we will also have the chance to view the Crypt. Enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant, followed by making our way to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guada-lupe (Patroness of the Americas) via the Plaza of the Three Cultures. You will first visit the Church of Santiago Tlatelolco, where St. Juan Diego was baptized. This plaza is important as it symbolizes the unique blend of the pre-Hispanic, and His-panic cultures that makeup Mexico. Continue through the Shrine of Guadalupe, built in response to Our Lady's request to the visionary St. Juan Diego Cuauht-latoatzin. After you marvel at the brilliantly colored Basilica, you will have some time for personal prayer, reflection and then some time for shopping. We will then make our way to celebrate Mass in St. Joseph Chapel. Following Mass, we will re-turn to the hotel, where you will have time to freshen up and then make your way down to the banquet room for dinner, followed by a presentation by your Spiritual Director during dessert. You will have the remainder of the evening free. Overnight at the hotel for a restful night's sleep.
Day 3: Sunday - June 11th: Mexico City: Full Day visit to "Girlstown"
This morning, board our bus to Chalco children's village, the "Girlstown". Part of the "World Villages for Children" - this school takes in children who are orphans or are from the poorest and most disadvantaged families in the local area. Here, girls have the opportunity to receive the education to overcome both poverty and become productive and independent members of society. For over 50 years, the Sisters have taken care of over 150,000 children in 13 schools throughout Mexico, the Philip-pines, and more. They accommodate over 20,000 children per year. To start the day, you will celebrate Mass with the Sisters of Mary and the children. After, you will enjoy a performance from the children, followed by lunch with the Sisters. We will then take a guided tour of "Girlstown" to visit and play with the children. We will return to the hotel, and get together for reflections from the weekend, and then adjourn the pilgrimage. Next, we meet in the lobby and transfer to a local restaurant for the Farewell Dinner. Lastly, return to the hotel to pack and overnight.
Day 4: Monday - June 12th: Return Home
This morning, leave your luggage outside your room where the porters will bring your bags down to place them on the bus. We will have an early breakfast and heartfelt farewells. Board your transfer to the airport for your return flights home. Porters will be at the airport to assist with the bags.
