Sample Day-by-Day Itinerary:


Day 1, June 14, 2010: Depart USA
Depart from Los Angeles for the overnight flight to Rome. Dinner and breakfast will be served on board.

 

Day 2, June 15, 2010: Arrive Rome
Upon arrival your escort will warmly greet you this morning and welcome you to Italy. Transfer to your hotel and enjoy a free afternoon for rest, relaxation, or exploration. Your tour escort can suggest sights or walks for you to enjoy. We will celebrate Mass at the Basilica of St. John Lateran which is the former residence of the popes prior to their return to Rome in 1377 before enjoying a welcome dinner to Rome. Overnight at our hotel.

 

Day 3, Jun 16, 2010: Rome (Papal Audience and Vatican Museum Tour)

Wake up in the Eternal City, one of the greatest centers of Western Civilization and the first truly cosmopolitan city on earth! It is also the spiritual capital for all Catholics around the world. Today is truly a day we will have in our minds for many years to come. This morning we go to Vatican City to attend the weekly Papal Audience and receive a Blessing given by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI (pending papal schedule). Following the papal audience, we will visit the Vatican Museums, a group of most impressive edifices with hundreds of galleries filled with art treasures. See awe inspiring relics and works of art donated throughout centuries as tributes of faith. We'll cover The Tapestry Gallery, The Raphael Rooms and the most overwhelming Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo's Masterpiece and the restored mural of the Last Judgment. Later, enter the largest church in Christendom, St. Peter's Basilica, built on the site where St. Peter was martyred. Unsurpassed in beauty, a monument to the long history of the Catholic Church, to which pilgrims come from around the world. St. Peter's is the grandest of the world's churches. Marvel at the Pieta and Bernini's amazing bronze canopy. We will also visit the grave of Pope John Paul II located at the Vatican (time permitting). Today we will celebrate mass at the Church of St. Anna then Dinner on your own tonight and overnight at our hotel.

 

Day 4, Jun 17, 2010: Rome

This morning we will have Mass at the Vatican before we depart for a sightseeing tour with focus on "Christian Rome". Touring we will see many important cultural and monumental sights around Rome. Stop for a visit at two major Basilicas: St. Mary Major, one of the oldest shrines dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, a shrine that contains a relic from the manger of the infant Jesus. St. Paul Outside the Walls houses the remains of St. Paul under its main altar. We will also see the ancient Baths of Caracalla, Arch of Drusus, Chapel "O'Domine Quo Vadis?" the remains of imperial tombs, Tomb of Celilia Metella, and the catacombs of St. Callixtus where the early Christians hid themselves to escape persecution. Dinner on your own tonight. Overnight at our hotel.

 

Day 5, Jun 18, 2010: Rome – Jerusalem

Depart from Rome. Arrival at Ben Gurion Airport. Exit terminal at the sign marked "groups" and meet your local guide who will escort you to the Casanova guest house in Jerusalem where we will stay for the remainder of the pilgrimage. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 6, June 19, 2010: Jerusalem

This morning after visiting the place of the Ascension and the Church of the Pater Noster, we view the beautiful city of Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives. We then walk down the hill to Dominus Flevit Chapel where Jesus wept over Jerusalem and on to the Garden of Gethsemane where we will celebrate Mass at the Church of All Nations where you may receive a plenary indulgence (according to the usual guidelines) since this is the last day of the “Year of the Priest”. We next continue to the New City, passing by the Knesset and Hebrew University. We visit the Shrine of the Book to view the Dead Sea Scrolls and visit the Model City of Jerusalem in Jesus’ time and Ein Karem where John the Baptist was born and Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth to utter the words of the Magnificat. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 7, June 20, 2010: Jerusalem

This morning we ride to Bethany where we will visit Lazarus Tomb and the Church of Martha and Mary. Returning to Jerusalem, we enter the Old city through Dung Gate and make our way to the Wailing Wall. Next we visit the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount before moving on to the Church of St. Anne, and the Pool of Bethesda. We will prayerfully pray the Stations of the Cross along the Via Dolorosa concluding with Mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 8, June 21, 2010: Jerusalem

This morning we drive along the Kidron Valley stopping at St. Peter in Gallicantus, where Jesus was held in the house of the High Priest Caiaphas. At Mt. Zion we visit the tomb of King David and pray in the Upper Room. We then proceed to the Benedictine Church of Dormition where we will celebrate Mass. This afternoon is yours for leisure, shopping or personal adventure. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 9, June 22, 2010: Bethlehem & Judean Desert

Today we drive to Bethlehem, the House of Bread and visit the church of the Nativity that commemorates the birth of Christ. We visit the Manger, Crusaders Cloister and the Grotto of St. Jerome. We will celebrate Mass in the upper church. Following a brief shopping stop at one of the famous Bethlehem religious stores, we drive into the wilderness of Judea enroute to Jericho to view the Mount of Temptation. Tour the excavations at the Qumran and Dead Sea Scrolls site. On our return, we pass by the Inn of the Good Samaritan. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 10, June 23, 2010: Galilee

This morning we make the drive north to Nazareth and walk through the local bazaars on our way to the church of the Annunciation where the Word became Flesh. We will celebrate Mass. Next, we travel to the Sea of Galilee to visit Capernaum, where we will see the remains of the village synagogue and the new church built on top of St. Peter’s house. We will then drive to the Mount of Beatitudes to pray in the beautiful gardens. We will stop at the Jordan River where we will renew our Baptismal vows before returning for dinner and overnight.

 

Day 11, June 24, 2010: Tel Aviv - Los Angeles

Today we depart from the Holy Land for our flight the USA.
