Tuesday, April 14th – Lisbon

Wednesday, April 15th – Lisbon – Santarem - Fatima

After breakfast depart Lisbon for Santarem, where one of the oldest cities in the world is located. We will walk through its narrow streets to the Church of St Stephen, containing the oldest recorded Eucharistic miracle. This miracle has been on continuous display since 1269. We then continue on to Fatima, the place where the Blessed Mother appeared in 1917 to three simple shepherd children and exhorted mankind to pray for world peace. Dinner and overnight in Fatima.

Thursday, April 16th –  Fatima

Six times, from the May 13 to Oct 13, 1917, the Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children in the diocese of Leiria. A new church is under construction, however just as beautiful, an older church was constructed here in 1928, and millions of pilgrims visit each year. Fatima is one of the most visited holy places for Catholics from around the world. The atmosphere of intense spirituality and the importance of Fatima have been attested to by the visits of two Popes: Paul VI and John Paul II.  Touring Fatima, see the Little Chapel of the Apparitions, Basilica, the site of Francesco and Jacinta's graves, the Hamlet of Aljustrel, where the children lived, and Valinhos, the site of Our Lady's appearance after the children's return from prison. Follow the Stations of the Cross along the Via Sacra (The Sacred Way) culminating in the Chapel of Calvary, which overlooks all of Fatima. Join pilgrims from around the world in an evening candlelight procession to pray the rosary. Dinner and overnight in Fatima.

Friday, April 17th   -  Fatima - Lisbon - Dublin

You will depart Fatima today on flights to Dublin.

Arrive into Dublin Airport, where you will be met by your driver guide and escorted to your luxury touring motorcoach. Céad Míle Fáilte – A hundred thousand welcomes to Ireland’s capital city, steeped in history and buzzing with youthful energy. Medieval, Georgian and modern architecture provide a backdrop to a friendly bustling port where the cosmopolitan and charming meet in a delightful diversity that is Dublin. Dublin is a delight to explore and very easy to navigate on foot. Dublin’s attractions are many, from castles, museums and art galleries to the lively spirit of Temple Bar. Enroute to the hotel the driver will give the group a brief introduction to the capital city. Check in is from 2.00pm so rooms may not be ready until after this time.  At your own leisure you might like to explore the museums, galleries, ancient castles and churches which are scattered around a city steeped in history and tradition.  Experience Irish theatre, dine in style, or relax by a log fire in an old Dublin pub and join in the ‘craic’

Saturday, April 18th  – Half Day Dublin City Tour

After breakfast this morning, your driver will bring you on a half day tour of Ireland’s Capital City. On the tour you will experience all the wonderful sights and landmarks of this ancient city and you will pass some of Dublin’s most renowned sites, such as Trinity College, Dublin Castle, Christchurch Cathedral, the Guinness Brewery, the River Liffey, O’Connell Street & the GPO. Visit St Patrick’s Cathedral - Saint Patrick's Cathedral has contributed much to Irish life throughout its long history (it was founded in 1191). Jonathan Swift was Dean from 1713-1745, during which time he expressed his 'savage indignation' at appalling social conditions in Ireland. He was also Dean when Handel's Messiah received its first performance in 1742 sung by the combined choirs of Saint Patrick's and Christ Church Cathedrals. Living Stones, a permanent exhibition, celebrates the Cathedral’s place in the life of the city, its history, and its role at the dawn of the third Christian Millennium. It emphasizes that the Cathedral is not a museum, but a building embracing the past to herald the future.  Return for overnight.

Sunday April 19th  – Midlands & Knock  After a full Irish Breakfast, travel through the midlands and the heart of Ireland, which boasts a range of breathtaking scenery from rolling hills, unspoiled countryside and wild boglands to diverse features including beautiful lakes, tranquil canals and the mighty River Shannon.  Continue to Co. Mayo, in the West of Ireland, to visit the Knock Shrine, where on 21st August, 1879, Our Lady, St. Joseph, and St. John the Evangelist appeared in a blaze of Heavenly light at the south gable of the Church of St. John the Baptist. The Apparition was seen by fifteen people whose ages ranged from six years to seventy-five and included men, women, teenagers and children.  Visit Knock Folk Museum, which was established to encourage understanding and appreciation of the Knock Shrine through the display of original objects. The Museum documents the story of the Knock Apparition of 1879, and places it in the context of life at that time. Permanent displays range from religious to fishing, farming, crafts, education, housing, clothing and transport. The development of Knock Shrine and the life and times of the late Msgr. James Horan are given a special place in the Museum

Monday, April 20th – Connemara Tour   After breakfast at the hotel depart Knock & explore the beautiful Connemara countryside, made famous by the John Wayne movie - The Quiet Man.  Filmed on location in Connemara, you can see why the landscape and scenery of the area was the real star of the movie! Connemara is a wild and beautiful region of mountains, lakes, tumbling streams undulating bog, unspoilt beaches and panoramic views. It is a Gaelic-speaking region and has attracted many artisans, who can be visited at work in their studios.  The centre of Connemara is composed of mountain peaks, the Twelve Bens or Pins which culminate in Benbaun (2388ft-728m).  The sharp grey peaks of quartzite rock which is resistant to weathering are too steep and hard to be clothed in blanket bog.. The region is now largely uninhabited, although in the past the more fertile lowlands were cultivated and the uplands were used as pasture for cattle and sheep.  Visit Kylemore Abbey and Gardens - Set in the heart of the Connemara Mountains is the Kylemore Abbey Estate, home of the Irish Benedictine Nuns. Visit the picturesque Abbey (under restoration), reception rooms, video and exhibition and
enjoy a stroll to the beautiful Neo-Gothic Church (under restoration) and Mausoleum where original owners are buried; browse in the Craft Shop; view Kylemore Abbey pottery as it is produced in the Pottery Studio and sample our home cooked food in the Restaurant. Take a shuttle bus to Kylemore Abbey’s six-acre Victorian Walled Garden, the most significant walled garden in the West. A visit to the West of Ireland is not complete without experiencing the beauty and tranquillity that is Kylemore Abbey and Garden.
Continue to Galway - a city, a county, and an experience to be savoured and remembered. The historic city of the tribes dances to a beat uniquely it’s own.

Tuesday, April 21st  – Depart from Shannon Airport.  Alas it is time to bid farewell to Ireland. You will be transferred to Shannon Airport, where you will bid farewell to your driver and check in for your return flight to the US.
