Sample Day-by-Day Itinerary:
Day 1 - October 19, 2015: USA – The Netherlands
Depart USA for your overnight flight to Amsterdam. Dinner and breakfast will be served on board
Day 2– October 20, 2015: Amsterdam
Upon arrival in Amsterdam, you will be greeted by your tour escort and transferred to your hotel. We start our first day of the pilgrimage with a tour of the capital of the Netherlands Amsterdam where we will get a taste of its 17th century historical and picturesque atmosphere of wealthy merchant homes along many canals and squares. The city has the highest museum density in the world and we will get a glimpse of the many cultural highlights: Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House, Rembrandt House and the Rijksmuseum with Rembrandt’s world-famous Nightwatch. Another highlight will be our visit to the "Begijnhof" and its Chapel where the eucharistic miracle of 1345 is commemorated. Lastly we will go to the Chapel and center of the devotion of "Our Lady of All Nations" who, beginning in 1945, revealed herself under that title to Ida Peerdeman. Dinner and Overnight.
Day 3 - October 21, 2015: Amsterdam - Kevelaer - Aachen
This morning we will visit the Chapel of Our Lady of All Nations. It was here that Ida Peerdeman received messages from Mary, the “Lady of All Nations” beginning in 1945, until 195. In the afternoon, we will continue on to Kevelaer. In 1641, a trader on three nights, heard a voice telling him “Build a sanctuary in my honor here.”. Simultaneously, his wife had an apparition, and recalled an intinerant soldier selling a picture of the Madonna. The soldier was found and the picture was bought. The Blind, Paralyzed, Deaf, and Mute, especially children, who came to the Church where the picture was given have been cured. Arrive in Aachen in time for dinner and overnight.
Day 4 – October 22, 2015: Aachen - Echt – Sablon - Aachen
After breakfast, we will make our way to Echt, where Edith Stein entered the Carmelite Order as a Jewish nun. From there, she was taken to the concentration camp, which lead to her martyrdom. Then on to Sablon (Brussels). The word “Sablon” makes reference to the fine sand, which is halfway between silt and sand. This sand covers the hills that dominate the valley of the Senne river. Visit the Chapel, then Sablon Church, which became a branch of the Notre-Dame de la Chapelle in 1801. It has played an important role in the history of Brussels since the 14th century. Our Lady was worshipped there by the Guild of Crossbowmen. This worship is on the base of the famous Ommegang du Sablon, which is still reenacts the life of Jesus Christ. Return to Aachen for dinner and overnight.
Day 5– October 23, 2015: Aachen - Gent - Aachen
Today we depart for one of the most beautiful cities in Belgium: Gent. Famous as the home of the painting “ Adoration of the Mystic Lamb”. Continue on to the canal city of Bruges, where you see the famous Michelangelo’s masterpiece Madonna and Child in the Cathedral of Our Lady where we will celebrate Mass. Continue on to the Chapel of the Holy Blood, and then return to Aachen for dinner and overnight.
Day 6– October 24, 2015: Aachen – Banneux – Beauraing - Aachen
After breakfast we will depart for Banneux - Notre Dame. We will visit Our Lady of Banneux, which is considered the Belgian Lourdes. Here in 1933 the Blessed Mother appeared to a very poor twelve year old girl Mariette Boco and called herself “ the Virgin of the Poor”, telling her she came for all nations, for all the sick, and to relieve the ill and the suffering. Our Lady of Banneux , or Our Lady of the Poor, was authorized with the approval of the Holy See in 1942. We will visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Beauraing (the Virgin of the Golden Heart). Here in 1932, the Blessed Mother appeared to a group of young children, dressed in white with a golden crown on her head, and hair of gold. There were 33 apparitions in all. Return to Aachen in time for dinner and overnight.
Day 7– October 25, 2015: Aachen - Cologne - Aachen
After breakfast we will take another short tour of the village of Aachen, which holds Aachen Cathedral and the Gothic Marian Shrine which houses the swaddling clothes of Jesus, the loin cloth of the Lord, the cloth for John the Baptist’s head and the Blessed Virgin’s Cloak. Celebrate Mass in the Cathedral where you will also view a 14th century statue of the Virgin that is venerated as miraculous. Depart for Cologne where we will stay for the rest of the day, and take a tour of the city. Cologne was originally founded and established by the Romans in 50 AD gained importance as a center of pilgrimage after its acquisition, in 1194, of the relics of the Three Magi. The relics remain in the magnificent Gothic Cathedral "the Kölner Dom." We will have a tour of this important Rhineland city during which we will see and hear much about its 2000 year history The University of Cologne is one of Europe’s oldest and largest Universities. During the Middle Ages, this city flourished as one of the most important major trade routes between east and west Europe. Return to Aachen for dinner and overnight.
Day 8– October 26, 2015: Aachen - Trier - Strasbourg
This morning after breakfast will enjoy a drive along the Rhine River to Trier. It is the oldest city in Germany, founded in or before 16 BC and the oldest seat of a Christian bishop north of the Alps. Situated in the important Mosel wine region Trier is known for its well-preserved Roman and medieval buildings, the Porta Negra, Roman amphitheater and baths, the huge Constantine Basilica, the Roman Catholic Cathedral which has the relic of the Holy Tunic that Jesus wore when he died, "the Liebfrauenkirche" which is the most important early Gothic Cathedral and St. Matthias Abbey where the apostle is buried. Continue on to Strasbourg for dinner and overnight.
Day 9– October 27, 2015: Strasbourg - Interlaken
After breakfast, we visit the Notre Dame Cathedral that was built in 1439, which soars above the city. Nearby, the 16th century astronomical clock whirls into action each day at 12:30. We will continue through Switzerland's beautiful scenery and its remarkable villages. Make our way to the Autobahn Chapel near Baden Baden, for Mass. Continued to Interlaken , overlooked by the Jungfrau Mountain, where we will have dinner and overnight.
Day 10– October 28, 2015: Interlaken – Einsiedeln – Lucerne - Interlaken
This morning we will depart Interlaken along the scenic Lake Lucerne and Lake Zug to Our Lady of Einsiedeln. We will celebrated Mass at the Monastery of Einsiedeln, which is a Benedictine monastery. The abbey is dedicated to Our Lady of the Hermits, the title being derived from the circumstances of its foundation, for the first inhabitant of the region, which was Saint Meinrad, an hermit. Visit Lucerne, with its miraculous views of Mount Pilatus and Rigi in the Swiss Alps. One of the city’s famous landmarks is the Chapel Bridge, a wooden bridge that was first erected in the 14th century. Continued back to Interlaken for dinner and overnight.
Day 11– October 29, 2015: Interlaken - Berne - Geneva
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and depart to Berne to explore on your own. This historical town is the Capital City of Switzerland, and in 1983, it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site and ranked among the world’s top ten cities for the best quality of life. In the afternoon continue to Geneva, a global city – and ranked the world’s ninth most important financial centre for competitiveness. Continue on to visit St. Maurice’s Abbey, famous for starting the evangelization in Switzerland and Europe. Celebrate Mass at this Abbey, and then continue to Geneva. This city hosts the highest number of international organizations in the world. Enjoy a “Farewell Dinner” and overnight Geneva.
Day 12– October 30, 2015: Geneva - USA
This morning time to bid farewell to Switzerland. Transfer to the airport for our flight home.
