Sample Day-by-Day Itinerary:

 


Day 1 – Wednesday – May 11 - USA - Krakow
Depart USA for your overnight flight(s) to Krakow. Dinner and breakfast will be served on board.

Day 2 – Thursday – May 12 – Krakow

Upon arrival in Krakow you will find your luggage and exit the baggage claim into the arrivals hall where you will be greeted by your tour escort and/or driver. After a warm welcome to Poland, you will be escorted to the vehicle which will take you to your hotel. We will celebrate Mass, and then have the remainder of the day free to spend at your own leisure. Following dinner at your hotel, you may explore the area, or relax, before retiring for the evening.

 

Day 3 – Friday – May 13 – Krakow (Half Day City Tour)
Following breakfast, we will celebrate Mass, and then we will explore Krakow's Market Square. Start by hearing the silver trumpet of the bugler from St. Mary's Tower, and visit the Church where we may pray before the extraordinary Wit Stwosz altar. The surroundings of the square have remained unchanged for almost 700 years and contain buildings of historic value such as the Town Hall Tower, the Cloth Hall and the burgher's houses. At Wawel hill we will tour the Cathedral, Coronation Chapel, where you may pray at the tomb of St Stanislaus Holy patron of Polish state. Following dinner at your hotel, you may explore the area, or relax, before retiring for the evening.

 

Day 4 – Saturday – May 14 – Krakow – Wieliczka (Salt Mines)
After breakfast, we travel to Wieliczka to visit the Salt Mines, which is on the list of the UNESCO sites. Thousands of feet below the service are magnificent Chapels and religious sculptures carved in salt, as well as beautiful chambers, galleries and passageways. The Salt Mines were blessed by His Eminence Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz in early 2010, and is a beautiful testimony to the piousness of generations of Wieliczka miners working here. You can admire the magnificent sculptures in the Chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony, with features blurred as a result of activity of the forces of nature and the relentless passage of time. The wooden Golgotha of the Wieliczka miners will delight you with its artistry and elegance. Your will be also visit the wonderful Chapel of St. Kinga, where you will find splendid altars, a carved pulpit, a copy of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper, and a salt statue of John Paul II. You can spend long hours admiring the decor and the artistry works of art exhibited here. We will return to Krakow in time for dinner and overnight.

 

Day 5 – Sunday – May 15 - Krakow Auschwitz and Czestochowa
This morning we will visit Auschwitz, the notorious Nazi concentration camp where unspeakable atrocities occurred. We will see the cell that imprisoned St. Maximillian Kolbe, and the Martyrdom Museum recalling the horrors of the Holocaust. Continue to Czestochowa, the home of the Poland’s great 14th century pilgrimage Shrine Jasna Gora Monastery. It is here that the Holy icon of the Black Madonna is located. We will have time to explore the most important places of. St. John Paul II was known to make frequent visits to the monastery throughout his life. We will return to our hotel in Krakow for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 – Monday – May 16 – Krakow (Divine Mercy – Lagiewniki)
After breakfast, we depart for our day's excursion to Lagiewniki, the capital of the Divine Mercy. It was here that the message of the Divine Mercy originated, which Christ Himself wished to pass on to our generation through the mediation of St. Faustina. The Sanctuary houses image of the Merciful Jesus and the relics of St. Faustina. As we view the Shrine of Divine Mercy we will see St. Faustina's convent Chapel and her Tomb. We will visit the newly constructed Shrine of Divinity dedicated by St. John Paul II on his last visit to Poland in 2002. We celebrate Mass at the Shrine before we visit the new centre "Have no Fear" where we pray by the relic of St. John Paul II. We will have time to pray and reflect before returning to Krakow for dinner and overnight.

Day 7 – Tuesday – May 17 - Krakow - Rome
After breakfast, leave on your flight(s) to Rome. Upon arrival your escort will warmly greet you and welcome you to Italy. Transfer to your hotel and where you will have the afternoon free to unpack and relax. We will make our way to Mass, followed by a welcome dinner with wine. This evening we will walk to St. Peter’s Square for Rosary (optional).

Day 8 – Wednesday – May 18 - Rome: Papal Audience – Trevi Fountain / Piazza Novona –St. John the Lateran -St. Mary Major – Holy Steps
Following breakfast, we will make our way to St. Peter’s Square to attend the Papal Audience, led by His Holiness, Pope Francis. (Papal Audience: Is scheduled to take place every Wednesday, pending the schedule of Pope Francis.) Following the audience, we will make our way to the Trevi Fountain built in the 15th Century to mark the ending destination of the Aqua Virgo – a man-made channel erected in 19 B.C or Piazza Novona where at the center: Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi “Fountain of the Four Rivers. After free time for lunch we will visit the Basilica of St. John the Lateran, the Pope’s Cathedral Church where relics of both Peter and Paul remain under the main altar. It was here that Pope Francis was formally installed as Bishop of Rome. Next we cross the street to see the Holy Staircase which is believed to be a staircase from Pilate’s palace in Jerusalem and brought to Rome by St. Helen in the 4th century. Time permitting we may climb the steps on our knees in memory of Christ’s Passion. Continue to the Basilica of St. Mary Major, the most important and the oldest Church dedicated to Our Lady. St. Mary Major contains a relic from the manger of the infant Jesus. We will celebrate Mass, and then make our way to dinner and overnight.

Day 9 – Thursday – May 19 - Rome: Vatican Museum – Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls - Catacombs
Following breakfast, we will depart to celebrate Mass in the largest Church in Christendom, St Peter's Basilica, built on the site where St Peter was martyred. Unsurpassed in beauty, a monument to the long history of the Catholic Church, to which pilgrims come from around the world, St Peter's is the grandest of the world's Churches. Marvel Pieta and Bernini's amazing bronze canopy. Following Mass, we will visit of the Vatican Museums, containing a group of the most impressive edifices with hundreds of galleries filled with art treasures. See awe-inspiring relics, and works of art donated throughout centuries as tributes of faith. We'll cover The Tapestry Gallery, The Raphael Rooms and the most overwhelming Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo's Masterpiece, restored mural of the Last Judgment. The tour ends as we make our way back into St. Peter’s Basilica. Pope Francis visited the tomb of St. Peter, following his elevation, for a visit of devotion that lasted 45 minutes. He is the first Pontiff to visit the necropolis since extensive archaeological excavations were conducted at the ancient site decades ago. We will also visit the tomb of St. John Paul II located at the Vatican. There will be free time for lunch, and then we will continue on to visit St Paul. Outside the Walls. Continue our tour via the Appian Way -- the oldest road from Roman times--plus the famous Domino Quo Vadis Chapel; see the ancient Baths of Caracalla, Arch of Drusus; Tomb of Celilia Metella, and the catacombs of St Callixtus where the early Christians hid themselves to escape persecution. We will conclude our day and wonderful pilgrimage in Rome with dinner at a local restaurant. You will have the opportunity to receive a Plenary Indulgence as you have completed your pilgrimage during a Year of Mercy Jubilee.

 

Day 10 – Friday – May 20 - Rome - USA
We bid farewell to our new friends, and to a pilgrimage which will be in our memories and heart for a long time to come. After breakfast depart from the hotel to Rome Airport for our return flight to the USA.
