Next, we will visit Macharus, the hilltop fortress, on the eastern side of the Dead Sea and 53 kilometers southwest of Amman, is recorded as the place where John the Baptist was imprisoned and beheaded. On top of the mountain, more than 1100 meters above the Dead Sea, Herod erected a fortress wall with high corner towers. In the center, he built a palace that was "breathtaking in size and beauty". After this visit, we will continue on to Petra for dinner and overnight at the hotel.
October 23, 2019: Visit Petra + Petra by night - Overnight in Wadi Rum
The group will begin the day with breakfast at the hotel we will transfer to the "lost" city of Petra! This city is located amongst rugged desert canyons and mountains. Enjoy a walking tour of the former capital and trading center. Your first stop will be a visit to the Siq, a mile-long gorge that contains a number of magnificent structures that are carved into the mountains. The walk will culminate with a visit to the Petra Museum. The Museum holds numerous artifacts from the Neolithic period of the Nabataean history. We will continue to the Rose stone cut city of Petra. We will celebrate Mass at one of Petra caves. Next, we will visit the Baptism Site of Jesus an archaeological World Heritage site in Jordan on the east bank of the Jordan River, officially known as Baptism Site "Bethany Beyond the Jordan" (Al-Maghtas). We will conclude the day in Wadi Rum for a night of luxury camping under the blanket of stars. Dinner and overnight.
October 24, 2019: Wadi Rum
Start our day at Wadi Rum, one of Jordan's and the world's known natural wonder. Vast, echoing and God-like." That is how T.E. Lawrence, the British archaeologist and army officer who inspired the 1962 film "Lawrence of Arabia," described Wadi Rum. As you approach the wind-swept mountains that fiercely jut out of the burnt orange sand in Jordan's largest desert, it's easy to see what he meant. The landscape here is like something from another world. After lunch on your own, we will participate in a camel ride. Enjoy some time on your own before dinner and overnight.
October 25, 2019: Wadi Rum - Aqaba
This morning after breakfast, we will say farewell to Wadi Rum and continue our journey to Aqaba. Aqaba's location next to Wadi Rum and Petra has placed it in Jordan's golden triangle of tourism. After check-in, feel free to explore on your own and take in the many local sites Aqaba has to offer. Partake in the local cuisine in one of the restaurants. This evening meet the group at the hotel for Mass, dinner and overnight.
October 26, 2019: Aqaba Free day Theme: The Ministry of Christ in the Galilee
Optional 3-hour boat cruise. Additional $59 per person. OR Enjoy the day at your leisure. Dinner and overnight.
October 27, 2019: Aqaba - Bethany - Dead sea Ishtar Kempinski

Celebrate Mass at the Basilica of the Transfiguration and then continue south towards the Jordan Valley, to the oldest inhabited city in the world, Jericho (Joshua 6:12-25). In Jericho, you view the exact location, the Mount of Temptation, where the Devil tempted Jesus during his forty-day fast (Luke 4:1). Following the visit to this mountain, continue to Jesus' baptismal site on the River Jordan (Matthew 3:13-17). After some time at the Jordan River, you will transfer to Jerusalem to check-in to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
October 28 & 29, 2019: Dead Sea (Free days)
Following breakfast, enjoy these days at your leisure. You will have the opportunity to take a float in the Dead Sea, the lowest and saltiest spot on Earth. Continue as you travel through the Judean wilderness, the site where Jesus spent His 40 days of fasting. Enjoy lunch on your own. Feel free to pray, shop or relax as you see fit. Dinner and overnight.
October 30, 2019: Dead Sea - City tour Amman Citadel - Roman Theater - Amman
Breakfast at the hotel, then we will visit Amman Citadel. The Amman Citadel is a historical site at the center of downtown Amman, Jordan. The Citadel is considered an important site because it has had a long history of occupation by many great civilizations. Most of the buildings still visible at the site are from the Roman, Byzantine, and Umayyad periods. The major buildings at the site are the Temple of Hercules, a Byzantine Church, and the Umayyad Palace. Next stop will be to the Roman Theatre. Amman's Roman Theatre is a 6,000seat, 2nd-century Roman theatre. A famous landmark in the Jordanian capital, it dates back to the Roman period when the city was known as Philadelphia. We will have lunch on our own and end our day in Amman with dinner and overnight.
October 31, 2019: Amman - Umm Queis - Jerash - Amman
This morning we will make our way to Umm Qais. Umm Qais or Qays is a town in northern Jordan principally known for its proximity to the ruins of the ancient Gadara. Enjoy lunch on your own. Next, we will depart for Jerash. Nestled in a quiet valley among the mountains of Gilead, Jerash is the grandeur of Imperial Rome, being one of the largest and most well-preserved sites of Roman architecture in the world, outside of Italy. To this day, its paved and colonnaded streets, soaring hilltop temples, handsome theaters, spacious public squares and plazas, baths, fountains and city walls pierced by towers and gates remain in exceptional condition. We will return to Amman for our farewell dinner and overnight.
