Day 1 –Sunday, October 8 | Departure from
Depart for your overnight flights to Italy.
Day 2 – Monday, October 9 | Arrive Rome
You’ll be met by your tour escort and transferred to your hotel. This evening enjoy a welcome dinner with your fellow pilgrims.
Day 3 – Tuesday, October 10 | Rome, the Basilica of St. John Lateran, the Basilica of San Clemente, The Colosseum
After breakfast at your hotel, visit the Basilica of St John Lateran, the former residence of the popes prior to their return to Rome in 1377; the Holy Stairs, which is believed to be a staircase from Pilate’s palace in
Jerusalem that Jesus climbed when he was condemned to death, brought to Rome by St. Helena in the 4th century. Time permitting we may climb these stairs on our knees in memory of Christ’s Passion; Mass at St. John Lateran. Lunch at local café or trattoria on your own. Later, you’ll visit the Basilica of San Clemente followed by a visit to the Colosseum. Later, take a stroll along the Via Dei Fori Imperiali. Dinner at a local restaurant in Rome. Overnight Rome.
Day 4 – Wednesday, October 11 | Rome – Papal Audience & St Peters Basilica
Breakfast at your hotel. Transfer to Vatican City, where we gather with pilgrims from around the world to attend a Papal Audience. Afterward, enjoy a tour of St. Peter’s Basilica, including the Piazza San Pietro, with access to the roof dome and crypt. Mass at St. Peter’s. Late lunch on your own. Afternoon stroll along the Via Della Conciliazione followed by a tour of Castel San Angelo. Depending on time and weather, you’ll stay to watch the sunset. Dinner at a local
restaurant in Rome. Overnight Rome.
Day 5 – Thursday, October 12 | Rome – TheVatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel – St. Mary Major
Breakfast at your hotel. Depart for your morning tour of the Vatican Museums, including the Sistine
Chapel. Afterward have lunch on your own before your group departs for an afternoon tour of St. Mary Major Basilica. Free this evening to explore Rome on your own. Overnight Rome.
Day 6 – Friday, October 13 | Rome – Santa Maria della Concezione die Cappuccini – the Catacombs
Breakfast at your hotel. Mass at Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini followed by tour of
Catacombs. Remainder of day and evening free.
Day 7 – Saturday, October 14 | Rome – St. Paul Outside the Walls
After breakfast, morning tour of St. Paul Outside the Walls. Mass at St. Paul’s. Lunch on you own at the
Piazza Navonna followed by tour of the Pantheon.
Dinner at a local restaurant in Rome.
Day 8 – Sunday, October 15 | Rome to Assisi
After an early breakfast, leave Rome for Assisi! Mid-day tour of the Valley of Assisi where we visit the Basilica of St Mary of the Angels where St. Francis spent most of his life. Sunday Mass at Basilica of St. Mary (subject to confirmation) Here we visit the
Chapel, Portiuncola, the rose bush, and the cave where he retired for prayer. We travel up to the quaint hilltop, birthplace of St Francis that still retains
something of the atmosphere of the early 1200s, the period when St Francis began his ministry. We visit St. Francis huge 13th-century Basilica built over his crypt containing many of the saint’s possessions and a series of frescoes depicting his life. Then to the Church of St Clare to see the saint’s incorrupt body. The foundress of the Order of Poor Clares followed the teachings of St Francis by living a life of poverty and humility. We may kneel before the San Damiano Cross from which Jesus spoke to St Francis, asking him to rebuild His church. Dinner and overnight in Assisi.
Day 9 – Monday, October 16 | Assisi
Breakfast at your hotel. Today will be a retreat day. Mass at St. Francis Basilica (subject to
confirmation) during the day. Gather together for your dinner of farewell. Overnight Assisi
Day 10 – Tuesday, October 17 | Assisi – Boston Prepare for your departure to Rome and your return flights to Boston.
